The tea tree essential oil comes from the Melaleuca alternifolia tree in Australia, the oil from this tree has been used for approximately 100 years as a healing treatment (Leonard and Wilson, 2018). Tea tree oil is popular for its antibacterial activity, research shows that the oil has the ability to damage the cells walls of the bacteria, making it easier for the body to fight it (Cox et al., 2001).
Research into this oil carried out in Australia also proves this oil to have antiviral properties, the oil was put against different viruses and the oil showed resistant against many of them (Carson, Hammer and Riley, 2006).
Tea tree oil is also known to be antifungal; it has the ability to kill a range of fungi and yeast. A study was carried out putting the oil against candida albicans, a yeast which affects the skin, throat and mouth, positive results were seen from the study (Mertas et al., 2015).
Apricot kernel oil has traditionally been incorporated into cosmetic products for its softening action on the skin and is used in soaps and cold creams. Apricot is a natural moisturiser, that helps to prevent dry, itchy skin.
Coconut fractionated oil (fat removed to make the product an oil and not a solid) is emollient and nourishing and due to its clear nature is the perfect base for applying to wrists and temples.
