Blended With

Frankincense Essential Oil

Frankincense has been highly valued for centuries. It was burnt as incense in Egyptian temples as an offering to the gods and even for fumigating the sick to banish evil spirits. It was, however, most commonly used as a tool to aid meditation.

Frankincense oil is well known for its effects on the human psyche and is recognised as being beneficial for nervous depression. (Price & Price.) Mojay states that Frankincense's most important action is on the nervous system explaining that it can relax yet revitalise making it excellent for treating nervous tension and nervous exhaustion referring to it as an important oil for alleviating depression. Holmes suggests that the sesquiterpenes in Frankincense contribute to the oil's calming actions while the monoterpenes may be the basis for the oil's mental stimulant action.

Frankincense is often recommended to quieten the mind and assist meditation, prayer and spiritual practices. Wormwood describes the subtle qualities of frankincense as elevating, spiritual and meditative.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary is regarded as a sacred plant and a symbol of regeneration by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians, who used it around graves to bring peace to the dead and comfort the living (Sellar, 1992). In aromatherapy, rosemary is used as an antidepressant and mental stimulant to ‘clear the mind.’

Rosemary oil is well known for its stimulating effect on the nervous system, reputed to be a brain stimulant it is often used in aromatherapy for poor concentration and nervous debility. Holmes recommends the oil for mental and physical fatigue, debility and memory loss or concentration. He also recommends using the oil for loss of motivation, apathy, poor focus, memory and feelings of pessimism.

Davis associates Rosemary with the third eye or brow chakra helping with clear thought and clarity.

Basil ct linalool Essential Oil

Basil was highly regarded in the past and even regarded as a ‘King among plants’ (Davis, 1990). Like rosemary, it was thought to relieve stress and clear the mind, for instance, some Indian tribes chewed basil leaves for inspiration.

Basil is reputed to clear the head, relieve intellectual fatigue and give the mind strength and clarity being used in aromatherapy for various nervous disorders. Wormwood recommends basil to encourage positivity, assertiveness, decisiveness, clarity and strength. Zeck states basil will bring balance and clarity to our inner emotions.

Lavender True (French) Essential Oil

Lavender is documented as a therapeutic agent as far back as the ancient Greeks and Romans. Both dried foliage and essential oil have remained continuously popular as both therapeutic and cosmetic agents to the present day (Cavanagh and Wikinson, 2002). The plant is commonly purported to have anti-depressant, anxiolytic and sedative properties, thus its essential oil has been used often for relaxation.

Fischer-Rizzi states that the scent of lavender oil instantly melts away nagging thoughts and stresses that make you feel anxious and tense while Holmes states that Lavender promotes emotional stability and renewal recommending it for irritability, anger, moodiness, mood swings and depression.

Davis recommends lavender for achieving deeper states of meditation helping bring balance and harmony to the heart chakra.
