Plant Family: Linaceae
Extraction: Steamed & pressed flowering seeds
Used for tired skin, Linseed oil contributes to the nutrition of the brain, aids cellular exchanges and diminishes the level of cholesterol. A bright golden yellow liquid not to be confused with the Flaxseed carrier oil. The key difference is the extraction process, flaxseed being cold-pressed, Linseed being steamed and then pressed to produce its oil.
Flax is one of the oldest cultivated plants, native to central Asia and has been cultivated for over 7000 years and has always been grown for its useful fibres which are taken from the stem of the plant. This makes cloth a tradition that started off with Ancient Mesopotamia and was carried on by the Egyptians. (They wrapped their mummies in linen.) The manufacture of Irish linen started 1500 years ago.
